Series: NORA UK
supermotard championship.
Off to the outskirts of Wigan. Makes a change form Blyton. I s'pose.
Really didn't feel like a race day though, probably 'cos I travelled to the
track on the sunday morning rather than the previous evening. For a change I
didn’t have to do any last minute fettling on the bike other than change
tyres. Race 1 Pottered around with no enthusiasm, reading track side signs and looking
for ppl in the crowd. :-/
Managed to stay in group D though. Race 2 Felt a bit more into the racing thing, mid grid start. Off the line, alongside
a couple of bikes and see bloke on my left bounce off another rider and start
to fall towards me. Uh oh. No
time to take avoiding action and I get knocked over and hit the ground quite
hard. Slide a bit, try to get up, fall over. Everything stops. I look around for my bike and see the back wheel still spinning.
Cool, it's still running. Grab clutch, heave bike up and set off in hot
pursuit of the pack that is now half a lap ahead, bashing bent levers and stuff
back in line. Failed to catch anyone, got lapped and pootled around 'cos my shoulder was
starting to ache a little. Finished 3rd to last and got relegated to E group.
:-/ Race 3 Front row start, off the line averagely and pootled around some more to finish
somewhere towards the back of the middle. Race 4 Terrible start from the middle of the grid as the bike bogged down and
practically stalled which left me dead last and a fair way behind the rest. I could see the last few riders though and managed to get a bit of a race
head on and chased them. Had quite a good dice with a couple of riders when I
caught them. I was getting held up quite a bit and eventually made a
'stuffing up the inside' going into the corner I disliked the most. Made some ground and caught the next place rider and got past on the
straight. Caught someone else, squeezed past somewhere before latching on to
the tail of another rider. I was able to close up in a lot of places, but the
rear tyre felt all squirmy and slidey around the 180 bend onto the
start/finish straight. Finished up half a dozen places from the back. Quite disappointed with the days racing. Well, with the way I rode to be specific,
even though I did improve my best time by over 6 seconds during the day. Bit
miffed by getting nerfed at the start as I felt I could ride at the mid D
group pace and stay there. Next time I think I will go to the circuit the night before as it seems to
get the race head on a little sooner. At least the bike behaved itself and
started and ran well all day. |
